Sparkeau: A Revolution in Beverage Packaging

Wei Ping Chen's Award-Winning Design Combines Ergonomics and Environmental Consciousness

Wei Ping Chen drew inspiration from the commonality of round-shaped portable beverage containers. Seeking to differentiate Sparkeau, Chen crafted a bottle that not only stands out visually but also maintains the bubbling taste of the water for up to eight hours after opening.

The design of Sparkeau is characterized by its curvature and round shape, which offer a comfortable grip for users of all genders. Its geometric form and proportional bottle perimeter evoke the elegance of a lady, articulating a posh and environmentally friendly design.

The realization of Sparkeau's design involved overcoming the common issue of sticky labels and glue residue on beverage bottles. Chen opted for environmentally friendly shrink film for commercial labeling, which also simplifies the recycling process for the glass bottles. The packaging is made from corrugated paper, which can be repurposed as a recycling box, further promoting environmental protection.

Sparkeau's design is not just about aesthetics; it also considers user interaction. The geometric design of the glass bottle, the elegant thermal shrinkable film, and the overall product design texture all contribute to a clean and pure impression, much like the water it contains.

The design process, completed in April 2019 in Taiwan, involved extensive research into ergonomics and universal design principles. The bottle's curved shape and the minimalist design of circular geometry make Sparkeau stylish and easy to handle. Overcoming challenges related to material selection and visual rendering, Chen successfully achieved a design that embodies the clean, simple essence of sparkling water while promoting environmental consciousness.

For his innovative design, Wei Ping Chen was awarded the Silver A' Packaging Design Award in 2020. The award recognizes top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation. Sparkeau, with its strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, is indeed a design that introduces positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
